Do you take on small painting jobs?
Yes. Paint Coast particularly welcomes smaller projects such as one room, a feature wall, selected trims, touch-ups and exterior refreshes. We will discuss the size, condition and value of the work first to make sure it fits the work we can undertake.
Why does surface preparation matter?
Even quality paint can struggle on dirty, damaged or poorly prepared surfaces. Depending on the area, preparation may involve cleaning, sanding, filling, spot priming and masking. Good preparation helps the final coating look more even and perform as intended.
What are the most common painting problems on Sunshine Coast homes, and how do you deal with them?
Sunshine Coast homes are exposed to salt-laden coastal air, high humidity and wet weather. Over time, exterior walls—especially shaded areas—can develop algae, mould and staining. Indoors, bathrooms and poorly ventilated rooms may experience mould or moisture marks.
Outside: We assess the surface, apply an appropriate cleaning treatment, then rinse or pressure-wash where suitable for the material. Once everything is clean and dry, we carry out any necessary preparation, priming and repainting using coatings suited to coastal conditions.
Inside: We check for ongoing dampness first. For minor surface issues, we carefully clean and prepare the affected area, allow it to dry, and use an appropriate stain-blocking or mould-resistant primer and topcoat where needed. Significant or recurring mould, leaks and moisture problems need specialist attention before painting—painting over active mould is not a lasting solution.
Why does exterior paint fade, peel or blister in the Sunshine Coast climate?
Strong UV, driving rain, humidity and, closer to the ocean, airborne salt can put extra stress on exterior paintwork. Fading or chalking can occur with weathering, while peeling or bubbling may also point to moisture, poor adhesion or inadequate surface preparation.
We assess the cause before repainting. Depending on the surface, this may involve washing away salt and dirt, removing loose paint, treating surface growth, making minor repairs and allowing the area to dry. We then choose a suitable primer and weather-resistant finish. Any active leaks or serious underlying damage need to be resolved first.
Which paints and primers do you recommend for Sunshine Coast homes?
We prefer professional-quality paint systems selected for the material, condition and coastal exposure of each property—not just a standard paint for every job. For exterior walls, we often recommend Dulux Weathershield® for its resistance to UV and tough weather. For some darker exterior colours, Dulux Weathershield ColourGuard™ can help improve fade resistance.
Preparation matters just as much as the topcoat. Where needed, we recommend a compatible sealer or specialised primer, such as selected Dulux 1Step® Prep or Dulux PRECISION® products, to address adhesion, stains or suitable mould-affected areas after cleaning and drying. In humid rooms such as bathrooms and laundries, Dulux Wash&Wear® +PLUS Kitchen&Bathroom is one option designed to resist mould and withstand regular cleaning.
Our final recommendation depends on the surface and the manufacturer's specifications. No paint replaces fixing leaks, improving ventilation or correctly preparing the surface.
Can you help me choose a decorative finish?
Absolutely. We can discuss finishes such as French Wash, Stone Paint and rust-effect feature walls, along with how texture, colour and natural light can affect the look. For specialty finishes, we may recommend reviewing a sample before committing to the final application.
